The most effective way to provide a catalyst for innovation in your organization is to clearly define the roles of everyone on the team and the overall objective of the project but allow the strategy or method to grow organically from the interaction of the team. This will force your team to find innovative solutions to the problem at hand. This type of collaboration often results in new processes that differ from the “status quo” and are refined by the viewpoints of participants with clear roles and often diverse backgrounds and ways of thinking. Finally, one last component that is necessary for this to be successful is for the participants to have the authority to make decisions and to be accountable. Even if the project is being done individually the only way an innovative method can be found is to work through the process, constantly ask questions, and try new things.
