Today is election day in the U.S. As I was waiting in line at my polling place it occurred to me that there is something really nice about having an official day that ends the decision process. No matter if you agree with the outcome of the various races, bond measures, etc we will have completed the process. Tonight or later this week we’ll be able to begin to plan and adjust according to the new reality. This should happen in small business too! So often decisions are never made making it very difficult to plan. This puts you at a competitive disadvantage. The nice thing about elections is that if you make a mistake it can be changed when they come up for re-election. If you approach decisions as “temporary” in your business too then you’ll begin to focus on the here and now (instead of your dream for the future). It will allow for better leadership with defined rules of the game. Choosing not to vote (both in elections and in your business) is the passive way of making decisions and you shouldn’t complain if things don’t go as you had hoped. It’s your own fault.
When will you vote?
